Leather is too hot when it's hot,
too cold when it's cold
and too heavy when it's wet!!
Cordura/Goretex or similar materials and you are as cool as possible when it's hot.
My record for cold is -20 deg C and both index fingers got *very* cold.
The rest was still OK after 30 Km.
(OK - my right trouser leg has a couple of shiny patches from the exhaust, but you get used to watching out)
